Quite simply, for every pound of pressure being applied by the user, the ratio is a multiplier of pounds of pressure being exerted on the cartridge plunger. For example, the CRL 7 to 1 Ratio Caulking Gun would provide 7 times the amount of each pound of pressure being applied.
